The Actual Footage of the Perimeter Survey between the Ancestral Domain (AD) Boundaries of Mayoyao and Banaue Ifugao started on March 07, 2022. This is to determine the metes and bounds of the Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous People ADs.
IGOROTA Foundation Inc. (IFI) under its Ancestral Domain Program has its objective on “Indigenous Communities have secured their rights over their ancestral domain.” To support this objective, IFI is conducting various Information Education Campaigns on Indigenous People’s Rights Act and Ancestral Domain Boundary Resolution (ADBR) Meetings.
In relation to the AD program, IFI funded the remaining activities for the Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) Processing that pushed through the perimeter survey between the said Municipalities.Last February 11, 2022, mission planning was conducted at the Municipal Conference Hall, Mayoyao. The National Commission on Indigenous People discussed to the stakeholders the procedures involving the perimeter survey activities and the respective functions and responsibilities (Municipal Local Government Unit, Barangay Local Government Unit, Indigenous Peoples Organizations, NCIP, and IFI).
As to date, the perimeter survey is ongoing with the participation of IPO, NCIP, MLGU, Elders, Leaders, Barangay Council members: Magulon, Maga, Epeng, Guinihon, Talboc, Aduyongan, Ayangan, Alimit and Nattum of Mayoyao; and, Pula, Cambulo, Batad, Ducligan, and Banao of Banue.

Bearing Gifts and Passing them On

Jenny Lopnao is a member of Alimit Women’s Organization in Mayoyao, Ifugao. Here, she shares her experience as a partner in the POG (Passing on the Gifts) project.
Nagtaraken nak idi 2007 iti baboy ngem insardeng ko ta masadutak. Ngem idi 2015, inmay ti IGOROTA ditoy ayan mi ken tinulungan da jay organization mi nga Alimit Women’s Organization. Adda meetings and seminars nga inatendaran mi ma ipanggep iti organization ken pangaywan iti taraken. Nagasatak ta maysa ak kadagiti naikkan iti baboy. Idi first, madik nga awaten gapu iti kapadasak ngem nakaritak nga agtaraken manen.
Idi October 2015, nakaawatak iti maysa nga burias nga babai. Adda iti policy nga tarak nen mi jay baboy ket paanaken mi ta umado ket pasaan mi jay kakadwa mi iti organization ken nu nakapasa kamin, agited kami iti P500.00 iti organization. English Translation:
Way back in 2007, I was raising pigs but I stopped because I started to get tired and lazy to do the work. In 2015, IGOROTA Foundation came to our place and helped us sustain our organization, the Alimit Women’s Organization. We attended seminars on how to conduct organizations and how to raise and take good care of animals. I was fortunate because I was one of the women who luckily got a piglet. At first, I was quite hesitant to accept the piglet because of previous experiences, but I was challenged to raise it, so I took on the task.
In October 2015, I received a gilt (a female piglet). It was stated in the policy that we need to take good care of the piglet until such time that it will grow and bear piglets. From there, the piglets will be passed on to the other members of the organization.
A contribution of 500 pesos to the women’s organization. Under my care, when the pig has grown, it gave birth to a boar (male pig), so we agreed that I will be selling it to buy 2 gifts. I raised one gilt and passed on the other one to Ms. Marie, one of the members of our organization. I also gave 500 pesos to the organization. After some time when the boar I raised has grown again, I bought 2 gilts just like before. I sold the other one for the school fees of my child, while the other gilt is still under my care. If I am going to sell my other pig, I will buy another one so that I can still sustain the gift I received. with this experience of raisin pigs and passing it on to the other members of the organization, I am indeed blessed to raise pigs as I am not hard up in taking good care of them. I don’t give them the pure commercial feeds; I find it better to mix the feeds with taro and many more.

Weaving, Surviving, Thriving

Mrs. Leonarda Padoyao is a member of the Apugan Women’s Organization (AWO) that was organized through the women program led by Sister Teresa Dagdag under the Montanosa SAC in 1987.

English Translation:
IGOROTA Foundation lent us Php 1,500 and this made my business survive and thrive until now. Nobody has given us additional capital. It was the IGOROTA Foundation who introduced us to a bank that can lend a big amount of money for a bigger capital, which we use to buy thread for our business, and which could mean bigger income. So, we gave it a try.
The assistance of IFI made a big impact in my life because the help they gave paved the education of my children. My business is still running up to now.
Once I had enough products to sell,I would display them in Mines View Park, at the Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad, and at the Maharlika Livelihood Center, until such time that I could rent my own space to display my products.
Before IFI came to help us, I was a struggling weaver because I was only receiving a salary of 15 pesos for three days. I always requested an advance from my boss, to buy food for my family. Our income was not enough to buy food at that time. My husband and I did not have jobs because we were not able to finish our studies, until such time that my husband was hired as a security guard. We worked hard until I could buy my own sewing machine. which I can use to make products for selling. I am thankful to have been able to survive and succeed. I honestly don’t know what has happened to the capital given to my group mates. I used the money I earned to send my children to school and to buy materials for weaving and sewing.
Unfortunately, my companions’ business dis not succeed. They may have spent all their money buying anything they want, without saving some for additional income.

Now I can now stop my business whenever I want to; anyway, my children have already finished their studies. I can already go wherever I want to. Before, I really did not have time for myself, I looked old for my age. I looked so thin because of sleepless nights and stress. I did not like to be disturbed even just for an hour. I didn’t have time to chitchat with other people. I was at home weaving and sewing while taking good care of my children. My life is easier at present. I have time to relax, sit, and reminisce the hard course of our life decades ago. I have nothing to think about, and I need not worry that if I won’t finish a product, my family will go hungry.
Gaining Productivity and Making Friends

Idi inmay ti IGOROTA ket maki mitmitingak, maki sabsabatak kadagijay padak nga babae, agmiting kami ket agsasabat kami nga women. Ket agshi-shinare kami ti maipanggep ti biag. Idi inyegda ti pecking duck ket ada trabaho, pakanen ken aywanan. Agprovide kanenda, ag-alaga. Ken ada meeting. Jay pecking duck ket dakel ti naitulong na ta kanenna ti golden kuhol, ken kenolang.
Gapu iti daytoy ket pati ni lakay ko ket kaykayatna ma-am-amuwan dagijay i-she share ti IGOROTA kenyami. Kum-kumustaen na pay jay meeting mi, ket i-shi share ko jay nag-mitinganmi. Mayat ta kanayon nga ma-seminar, maki-kadwa kadagitoy babae nga haan maipukok iti trabaho. Mayat ta ada ti rest nga isu pagmitingan mi.

English Translation:
Before IGOROTA came, I did not have things to concern myself with, like meetings or animals to feed. I did not expect to meet other women because I always stay at home. I only go out to work in the farm.
When IGOROTA came, I started to always attend meetings and meet with other women. We share stories about life. They gave us pecking ducks to feed and take care of, which gave us more reason to be productive. The pecking duck also helps in getting rid of the golden kuhol, by eating this pest.
Because of this, my husband became interested in the things IGOROTA shares with us. He also asks me how are meetings go, and I gladly share with him our meeting discussions. I am happy to attend the seminars conducted and to join other women. This allows us to take a break from work. It’s nice because we get to take a rest and gather together.
I attended a waste management training, which was conducted for the organization, and one of the things I learned was to make a doormat. I apply the things I learned, and my husband also helps me.
